This is the first of a set of small stockings which are sure to appeal

to anyone who loves samplers.   The design is inspired by the

beautiful red samplers stitched by young girls who were taught

needlework skills in the orphanages established in the mid 1800’s

by George Muller (located in Bristol, England) so they would

have a trade when they became of age and so left the orphanage. 

By 1870 there were over 2050 children in his care
